Why choose timber for your walls?

Exterior timber wall cladding serves as a protective skin for your building. It shields against all sorts of elements, from the sun’s harsh rays to heavy rain, hail, or wind. Timber-clad walls are naturally beautiful and can be coated to achieve the colour of your design dreams. Sourced from sustainable Australian forests, timber is a great, eco-friendly alternative, and it’s completely reusable and biodegradable.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Got a question? Here are the answers to some of the questions we get asked a lot. If you can’t find the answers you’re looking for, send us a message or give us a call. We’re happy to help.

In today’s market, the cost of timber cladding for a home’s exterior is less expensive than aluminium cladding. You can easily find many companies that manufacture and supply exterior wood cladding at different prices. But nothing is quite like the range at Market Timbers.

Vertical timber wall cladding is a fire-rated, highly attractive, and durable finish that is hard-wearing, reusable, biodegradable, and weather-proof. It is the most affordable option for anyone on a tight budget. Or, if you want to add a dramatic accent to your walls, a western red cedar can be a great option apart from hardwood cladding. Our sales team is happy to provide a custom profile and design consultation service to create existing new products for volume orders.

Softwood is now considered the best timber for exterior wall cladding in most homes due to its distinct profiles, unmatched beauty, and natural finish. It is also considered to be one of the least expensive woods to produce. Some contractors will only use softwood as the primary material in their exterior cladding projects because it is less durable than hardwood lining boards. However, it is still much cheaper than the other types of external timber cladding. Like shiplap cladding exterior products, softwoods are much more sustainable than Australian hardwoods, with 80% of all timber being soft on the surface. They’re also resistant to bacteria and moisture, which makes them ideal for decking and exterior projects like wall cladding, or spotted gum cladding. For instance, a softwood native to Australia will require much less maintenance than softwood from other places. Make sure you know what softwood is best suited for your home before purchasing any timber cladding materials.

To ensure the best, most natural-looking timber wall cladding for your project, plan a layout before installation. Assemble the base of your deck with blocks placed in a level row. Nail through packing strips so you can check for level before attaching boards to the frame completely. If using compressed wood or plywood, ensure the ends are sealed or painted; if butting timber together, use nailers. Cut and assemble siding as needed, then attach according to instructions included in the package.
